Held at the beautiful Latrobe Golf Course in Alphington, Carpentry Australia’s annual “Nail My Swing” Golf Day brought together members, sponsors, and partners for a day of camaraderie, competition, and reflection. Generously supported by our friends at Bendigo Bank, this year’s event focused on an important theme: mental health awareness and the creation of healthier work environments within the building and construction industry.
The event was filled with energy as members enjoyed various games and challenges set across the course. Some of our amazing sponsors provided generous prizes and awards that added to the excitement of the day. Milwaukee stole the spotlight by putting forward a two-piece power pack for the Best Dressed prize, which was won by the ever-stylish Slavko from SG Build—though it was a close call!
IMAR Insurance brought the adrenaline with an incredible prize—a hot lap with Will Davidson—awarded to the lucky golfer who landed closest to the pin. Congratulations to Decking Out Melbourne for taking home that thrilling experience. Not to be outdone, Paslode also contributed some fantastic merchandise packs, which were eagerly claimed by winners throughout the day.
Mental Health in Focus: Keynote from Lance Picioane
While the day was packed with fun and friendly competition, it also carried a deeper message. Carpentry Australia’s Mental Health and Wellbeing partner, Lance Picioane from the Never Alone Foundation, delivered a powerful keynote that reminded us all of the importance of addressing mental health challenges within the industry. Lance shared personal experiences and insightful advice on how we can better support ourselves, our teams, and our communities.
His keynote was a stark reminder of the 25% of the workforce who face ongoing mental health challenges. Lance emphasised the ripple effect mental health issues can have on individuals and workplaces and highlighted the need for greater awareness and support.
Workshop: Building Psychological Safety in the Workplace
In line with R U OK? Day, Carpentry Australia followed up the event with its first workshop on Building Psychological Safety and Culture in the Workplace. Facilitated by Lance, the session was a huge success, providing attendees with practical tools and strategies to create healthier and more supportive work environments.
The interactive nature of the workshop ensured everyone walked away with actionable steps to recognise and address the mental health challenges in their own teams and businesses. Attendees left feeling empowered to create workplaces where psychological safety is prioritised, improving both employee well-being and overall productivity.
A Big Thank You
We want to extend our warm thanks to everyone who participated in the Nail My Swing Golf Day and our fantastic sponsors who made the event such a success. Bendigo Bank, Milwaukee, IMAR Insurance, and Paslode—your generosity and commitment to supporting our members and the broader carpentry community are deeply appreciated.
Together, we took strides toward fostering connections, raising mental health awareness, and promoting safer, more inclusive work environments across the industry. We can’t wait to see you all at next year’s event! Until then, let’s keep the conversation going and ensure that we are there for each other—on and off the job site.
